“Invented and Made in Russia” is a joint project of the Machine Tool Museum and the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts. This is the result of the object design competition which was held for the third time.
At the Machine Tool Museum visitors may find out what the modern face of domestic object design is (“object design” is the creation of functional products with an aesthetic components) from the minimalism of the geometric shapes to the experiments with materials. The project pays special attention to the environmental issues, the principles of the circular economy, and the topic of responsible consumption.
More than 60 pieces of furniture, textiles, lighting, porcelain and ceramics, different in their styles, ideas and color schemes, were created by designers from 15 cities of our country. A record number of applications from 84 cities were sent to participate in the biennial competition. An expert jury selected more than 200 pieces of furniture, interior design, textiles and tableware. The works were presented at an exhibition at the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts in autumn of 2022.
The exhibition consists of four sections. “Industrial design” are examples of original objects produced with minimal use of manual labor. The “Studio Design” section shows products that, due to the complexity of production and the use of experimental technologies, are produced in limit volume. “Youth nomination” — works created by graduates who completed their studies in specialized Russian universities from 2019 to 2022. And finally the non-competitive part is “Fine craft” nomination formed from objects created at the intersection of art and design, their difference is high artistic value with the absence of certain functionality.
